The activities of our Kito-Health Unit at San Fernando has never stopped during all summer, and the month of August has been dedicated to a special theme: dental care!
The residents of the Sagayad barangay and especially the children of the local elementary school, as part of their hygiene monthly program, have been involved in a project of dental check-up. According to the Department of Health of the Philippines government “oral disease continues to be a serious public health problem in the Philippines”: about 92.4% of Filipinos have tooth decay, which means that, although preventable, these diseases affect almost every Filipino at one point in his/her lifetime. The situation of the children is alarming on this issue: 97.1% of six-year-old children suffer from tooth decay, a condition that, since the early age in which the symptoms manifest, may influence their whole quality of living.
Thanks to your help, we are able to deliver this kind of fundamental services directly to the beneficiaries of the neighborhood in which our Kito Unit is set, and to start our training about basic hygiene, to see the beautiful (and healthy!) smiles of the Filipino children!
