we are happy to share with you the beginning of the first Health Training in Tulang Diot, Camotes Islands. After preparing themselves, Kito Onlus staff has started off the first session of the Health Training, a three-week long course. The class has seen the participation of 50 people and was very successful!
Just to give some geographical info, Tulang Diot is an island that finds itself isolated from the major island of Pacijanm, which is made up by the sole municipality of San Francisco. It is classified by the Rural Health Centre of San Fran as GIDA – Geographically Isolated and Disadvantageous Area. It hosts 695 people (142 families) of which about a hundred are children under the age of 5.
The training has taken place on Friday, February 20th, as previously planned: a first group in the morning and a second one in the afternoon. All invited people have participated, with 25 moms attending the training in the morning and 23 + 2 dads in the afternoon. The language used for the training has been the local dialact, Visaya, which is different that Tagalog, the official filipino language. This was done to ensure that all participants fully understood what was taught them.
Training was carried out by a staff of nurses, Christine, Jester and Louella, supported by the local obstetrician, Madame Gloria, which is a well-respected figure among the community.
As you can imagine, it was a real success and the staff is getting ready for the next sessions of the Health Training. Keep posted for updates on the following classes and keep following us for flash-updates on out facebook and twitter accounts.
