We have just received last month report from San Fernando La Unión and we are happy to share with you our successful outcomes focusing on the outstanding impact of Kito Health on nutrition indicators.
April was an important month in terms of efforts to promote proper nutrition among Filipino population. Kito Onlus has indeed agreed to support twice a year, in April and October, the City Government in the distribution of supplementary Vitamin A to those in need, including the most vulnerable and stunting-prone children. Last month only, 430 children aged 0-12, 194 females and 236 males, received supplementary feeding treatment at Kito’s health facility in San Fernando. This occasion has also been an important opportunity to promote better practices among their families.
Correct nutrition, which includes high levels of micronutrients such as Vitamin A, is essential for the physical and cognitive development of children. In the Philippines Vitamin A deficiency is a significant concern, since it negatively affects the lives of many people. This deficiency is indeed the leading cause of preventable blindness in children, and it diminishes the ability to fight diseases, thus increasing the risk of severe illness, and even death, from common infections, such as diarrhea and measles.
Supplying adequate Vitamin A can therefore significantly reduce child mortality, and providing supplementary micronutrients to the children of San Fernando is one of the most effective way to build their physical and cognitive resilience allowing them to put all their efforts in their education and character development.
